The honor is voted on by the Professional Hockey Writers Association and recognizes the best first-year players at each position across the entire league. For those who followed Dobes throughout the season, the recognition comes as no surprise.
The 25-year-old netminder appeared in 43 games for Montreal and finished the regular season with a remarkable 29-10-4 record, helping lead the Canadiens to one of their best seasons in recent years.
