Tonight, a dream became reality for goaltender Joshua Ravensbergen—and for everyone who has watched his journey, believed in his mindset, and witnessed his steady climb from overlooked underdog to elite NHL prospect.

With the 30th overall pick in the first round of the 2025 NHL Draft, the San Jose Sharks selected Joshua Ravensbergen, marking a milestone moment for both the towering netminder and Canadian goaltending as a whole.

Working with Josh behind the scenes on the mental side of the game —this moment comes as no surprise to me. He’s the kind of athlete who doesn’t just train hard physically; he trains his mind like a pro.

From Undrafted to Unforgettable

Joshua's path to this stage wasn’t typical.

He was undrafted in the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft, a moment that would discourage most young goalies. But Josh didn’t flinch. He stayed focused, earned a free-agent invite to the Prince George Cougars’ camp, and never looked back.

Fast forward to his WHL rookie season, and Ravensbergen was turning heads with jaw-dropping stats such as his 2.46 GAA, .907 save percentage, 26-4-1 record, and league-leading six shutouts, tying a WHL rookie record.

The Mental Edge

I’ve had the privilege of supporting Joshua’s mental training journey for the last 2+ years—from visualization to pre-game routines, reframing pressure, and developing a strong bounce-back.

His commitment to mastering the mental side of the game gave him a distinct edge in his development and helped him perform under the brightest lights—including at the CHL Top Prospects Game and the NHL Combine, where he left a lasting impression.

Before the 2025 NHL Draft, I spoke with Josh on his mindset going into the big day:

"I wasn't drafted to the WHL, so I know it's not about when you go, but what you do after. So just trying to enjoy this weekend and whether I get drafted day 1 or day 2, it's really all about what I do after."

That quote speaks volumes about who Josh is—not just as a goaltender, but as a person. He’s always focused on the long game. Just a few years after being passed over in the WHL draft, Josh heard his name called in the first round of the NHL Draft—a full-circle moment that perfectly embodies the power of perseverance, perspective, and mindset. It wasn’t about when he went—it was about how he prepared. He didn’t just get drafted… he made a statement.

What Sets Josh Apart

It’s not just the 6-foot-5 frame and calm, calculated style that earned him first-round status. It’s the consistency. The focus. The maturity. The ability to bounce back.. and the hunger to grow.

Scouts describe him as “an imposing figure in the crease who reads the play exceptionally well, tracks pucks with precision, and never gets rattled.” He excels in positioning, post integration, and maintaining control under chaos.

But more than that, Josh brings a professional mindset to the rink every day. That’s something we’ve worked on for years, and it’s something NHL teams truly valued heading into the draft.

A Huge Moment for Canadian Goaltending

With Ravensbergen going in the first round, he becomes one of the rare Canadian goaltenders in recent years to be taken this high—a strong sign that the next wave of elite Canadian goalies is here.

His story is one that will inspire countless young goaltenders: You don’t have to be drafted at 14 to be elite at 18. You don’t need the perfect path. You just need the right mindset, relentless work ethic, and belief.

What’s Next

Being drafted is a milestone — but for Josh, it’s far from the finish line. The real work starts now. Josh is now headed to the Sharks development camp, and one thing is for certain: he’ll approach it with the same mindset that got him here—focus, discipline, and the eagerness to evolve. Tonight was about celebration. Tomorrow, it’s back to the process.

Congratulations, Josh — the best is yet to come.
