The Pete Fry Goalies of the Month January 2026: Carter George, Jakub Dobes and Owen Flores

Carter George - Soo Greyhounds (OHL)

January Stats: 6-1-0-1 1.87 GAA .924 SV%


Carter George has also been named the Ontario Hockey League’s Goaltender of the Month for January after an outstanding stretch between the pipes. The 19-year-old posted a 6-1-0-1 record across seven appearances, leading all OHL goaltenders with a 1.87 goals-against average and a .925 save percentage while logging more than 400 minutes of action. George was the only goalie in the league to record two shutouts during the month and the only goaltender to play over 400 minutes while maintaining a save percentage above .924, firmly establishing himself as one of the league’s elite. Carter George and his Team Canada won the bronze medal at the 2026 IIHF World Junior Championship, finishing strong and resiliently on the international stage.


George also marked his name into the history books on January 21, scoring his second career OHL goal, becoming the first goaltender in league history to score twice and just the second in Canadian Hockey League history, alongside François Brassard of the QMJHL. Acquired from the Owen Sound Attack on January 7, George made an immediate impact with the Greyhounds, opening his tenure with five straight wins, two shutouts, and a goal. A native of Thunder Bay, Ontario, George was selected in the second round of the 2024 NHL Draft by the Los Angeles Kings, and his dominant January performance signals a bright future ahead.


Jakub Dobes - Montreal Canadiens (NHL)

January Stats: 6-0-0-0 2.97 GAA .893 SV%


Jakub Dobes continues to prove why his competitive edge stands out inside the Canadiens’ locker room. Jakub earned four consecutive starts in January, and he went undefeated during that stretch. Teammates often point to Dobes intensity and focus as defining traits, and that mindset was on full display as he stayed composed while making timely saves to keep momentum firmly on Montreal’s side.


Dobes made 26 saves in a 7-3 victory over the league-leading Avalanche at the Bell Centre. He has been outstanding in goal, consistently making crucial saves and keeping the Montreal Canadiens competitive in high-pressure situations. He also delivered an exceptional performance with 32 saves helping Montreal secure a 3-2 overtime win over the Vegas Golden Knights, and led the team to a 4-2 comeback victory over the Buffalo Sabres.


Owen Flores - Rockford IceHogs (AHL)

January Stats: 4-1-1-0 1.79 GAA .931 SV%


Owen Flores had a breakout month in January for the Rockford IceHogs. In six appearances, Flores posted a 4‑1‑1‑0 record, with an impressive 1.79 goals-against average and a .931 save percentage. The 19-year-old goaltender showcased his consistency and composure, keeping his team competitive in every matchup and standing out as a key reason for the IceHogs success this month. His performance included multiple games with high shot volumes, proving he can handle pressure at the AHL level.


Flores standout moments included his AHL debut, where he made 32 saves in a tight shootout loss, and his first AHL win against the Manitoba Moose, stopping 28 shots to secure a 6–2 victory. With one shutout and several clutch stops, Flores demonstrated that he has the talent and poise to make a significant impact between the pipes. Flores is positioning himself as one of the AHL’s most promising young goaltenders heading into the rest of the season.



Together, Carter George, Jakub Dobes, and Owen Flores turned January into a statement month, each proving that elite goaltending is built on preparation, consistency, and mental toughness. From George’s historic and award-winning dominance in the OHL, to Dobes’ composed, confidence-driven performances at the NHL level, and Flores’ breakout impact in the AHL, all three showcased the ability to rise to the moment when opportunity knocked. Their success reflects countless hours of preparation, a relentless competitive edge, and the trust they’ve earned from their teams clear signs that each is ready for even bigger challenges ahead.
